Lost

The First “The list Reviews” TV-show Reviews.

I wish I had this blog when this show first started, so I could blog about it real time, as it all happened and played out, Blogging about it afterwards is just as useful as I can delve a little into the shows mysteries.

First though lost Created and aired in 2004, it was one of the most expensive (on film) TV-shows due to its large Cast, The show smashed ratings all over the world for 3 series straight although the show ran for an extra 3 more series. I’m not sure if the ratings dropped because of the writing strike, or the fact the story got a little confusing / over the top with plot ideas.

It was exactly what I loved about the series, its mad plot themes and loveable characters. On the surface this series was about a fantastic Island riddled with mysteries, and we followed the survivors of oceanic flight 815, as they tried to survive.

Series one, starts us off with a general island survival. A strange forest where whispers are heard, giving our survivors a sense of not being alone.

The mysteries were all well and good, but what really made this show were its cast, the characters were both deep and we got to know them through the shows “flash back” style story telling. This was a theme that continued throughout the entire show. (Ultimately this adapted into “flash sideways”)

There were some very enjoyable story’s here, a few of my favourite were, Ben’s, Soya’s, Kate’s, Richards and Hugo’s. Six years of twist and turns, answers and the unanswered. This show sparked a huge interest and following, and even though that lessoned as the series went on, it was one of those great shows people just love to watch, like house or Dexter.

Polar bears and angry boars

The first element of weirdness, the island seemed to house polar bears, the reason for this was later revealed. These bears were scary huge. There also seemed to be a common theme of angry boars in this show, almost every series comprises of at least one scene where an angry boar is ruining something. It is never explained how the bears got onto the main island however their origin is explained.

The Dharma Initiative

Buildings littered throughout the Island carry this logo; They came to the island to experiment with its unique property’s. The writers of lost delve into the story of the Dharma initiative a few ways, giving a true explanation into what happened. One of my favourite story lines right here.

The Others

Native inhabitants of the Island, You’re never sure what to make of these people, but before long there just part of the “gang”. Lead by Ben, the others are a mystery in themselves.

The man and white & The man in Black

The whole reason why the survivors arrived and survived on the island comes down to these two people, and a private game they play to pass time. Their own story is one of mixed understanding, and explains a lot about how the island and its inhabitants came to be. These two people pull the strings behind the scenes and we only get to meet them near the end of the show.

Those are just a few elements of what makes up lost; there are more, but Spoilers people, Spoilers. I wouldn’t want to potentially ruin the storyline for anyone.

The above characters formed some of my favourite cast on the show, Desmond the Psychic, who saw visions of the future. Hugo and miles, who spoke to the dead, John Locke who spoke to the island and Ben the genius manipulator, all the series come together perfectly at the end, and your left with a sense of sorrow that the story is over.

Definitely a must see, a great series to enjoy.

Comment and subs welcome.

IF YOU HAVENT SEEN ALL OF LOST, THEN STOP READING

There are numerous theories about what the last series is about, more so considering the Flash sideways. Some people believe that the flash side was caused by the incident at the swan. Since they began when Juliet detonated the bomb, which returned our survivors back to their own when.

This however, is false, at least in my eyes. Consider time for a second, When series one began, this was a time when all the survivors of flight 815, first landed on the island. They were destined to travel through time, yet they just hadn’t experienced it in a linear fashion. Time for them was distorted by the very island itself. So Juliet had already detonated the bomb which returned them to their time, only she wasn’t aware she had. So it makes no sense that the alternate reality would begin, it should have always been there in that instance.

To me the flash sideways was the survivor’s retribution and reward for their work with the island. This was their life modelled in perfection, an echo of what they were chosen by Jacob for in the first place. Since all the candidates where brought to the island for their loss and also through there need of a purpose.

You could assume that they found each other through fate in the flash sideways because they would have met each other anyways. I disagree, I believe they found each other in their reward, because of the bond they shared being on the island, the part each played in the events which unfolded solidified them together. They find each other and eventually move on together.

To me the flash sideways was about closure, all the events of the island, Charlie’s death, Jacks too and there ultimate reunion with the ones they loved. It was a nice touch, although interpreted differently depending on who the watcher was. Not many people understand the last series and what it was about, but I think that was the point. It was always about what the viewer’s thought.

LOVED lost. Not just because it was innovative and kept my interest, but because it was something both of my kids enjoyed too and was something we would watch together. It was fun to talk about because, I agree, a lot was open to interpretation.

yeah :) there’s nothing better than having something you and your family can watch together, and lost is a perfect example. Gives everyone a chance to express there differing opinion, i guess thats why the producers of the series left so many questions unanswered for a while. Give us all a chance to make assumptions :)

Thank you for your comment :)
